Cyber is the term for the ubiquitous availability of information and data and the basis for the digitization and global networking of the most diverse technologies. Digitization means automating business processes and connecting their people and goods to cyberspace and allowing them to interact worldwide. This is the basis for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). Globalisation is a phenomenon that arises from common thinking, networked technologies and the mobility of people and goods. All these developments require security as a foundation: security for people, goods, facilities, information and data, regardless of location.

Dealing with despair
The rapid development towards ever more complex systems within the framework of 4IR leads to constant changes in the organisation and adaptation of business processes. This development makes the integration of security requirements into business processes and the anchoring of the security concept in the respective organisational cultures difficult. Cyber security / ISMS / CIP
The term cyber security is generally understood to include IT security and all forms of security of digital technical systems. These are supplemented by information security, i.e. the security aspects in business processes and the organization. Special requirements exist in the area of critical infrastructure protection (CIP).
In order to organize cyber security, guidelines, processes, organizational elements and company standards must be established in accordance with management. This is achieved, for example, through an information security management system (ISMS). Industry-specific versions of know-how or information security management systems, some of which can be certified, are, for example, ISO 27001, IT security catalogue, SEWD-IT or TISAX.
The trick is to integrate the requirements of existing standards or industry standards into the respective organization. While many consultants use a standard procedure here, VICCON concentrates on understanding the company with its existing instruments and implementing an ISMS tailored to the company. This allows the retention of existing structures and corporate cultures and leads to a soft introduction of security. Security is also explained. Situations in which security is rejected because it encounters everyday business reality and is perceived as a foreign body can often be avoided.
Digital security
If companies pursue digital strategies, business ideas and models are usually developed and coordinated with IT. However, security comes before value creation. Bringing a product onto the market that turns out to be insecure can bring down even the best business idea and digital strategy.
Digital security is not synonymous with IT security or cyber security. While the latter primarily reflect the technical view of security, digital security is about the digitalization of trust and encompasses all security-relevant aspects of the product or service. Prototype protection is one of them. Data protection is another. It is about the overall understanding of all elements in a digital product or service that are part of the functionality or that influence the user experience. A digital product interacts with its environment. While technical communication can be secured by IT, data security in human or social communication, for example, can no longer be guaranteed by IT without further ado. Digital products or services must be thought of securely and human behaviour must be anticipated. This is possible with a corporate culture that promotes creative processes in the context of strategic thinking. VICCON supports the development of security strategies for the digital future of companies.
Global Security
Part of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) is a digitized, global value creation. This means a global networking of business processes. But the European electricity grid, for example, is also a transnational critical infrastructure, which is increasingly being digitised as a result of the energy revolution. Cyber-attacks on such digitised systems can lead to extensive damage in the supply chain, but also to nationwide power outages. The global supply chains of the automotive industry, but also the trends in mobility such as Electrified, Connected, Automated, Shared demand global answers.
Uniform standards and risk assessments as well as a comprehensive exchange of information on cyber vulnerabilities and threats can have a preventive effect. On the other hand, the number and professionalism of attackers in the cyber space is growing rapidly. Protection and defence are only possible if strategic approaches are found that are promoted and established internationally between all relevant actors, such as governmental and private organizations.
VICCON supports customers internationally and works on the international opinion finding of Cyber Security and Cyber Norms through the Institute for Security and Safety of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences. This includes standardization committees, but also organizations such as UN, ITU, IAEA, EU, NATO, OSCE as well as internationally operating NGOs.
